I am unhappy that I haven’t been able to draw/paint as much due to a mound of work that I have to finish before my registration for school. I’m also trying to squeeze in some vacation time, but sometimes I feel that I’m not on vacation at all. It really feels like I’m a new college student again.
Hello! I’m Pin Calacal. I’ve already received my degree from the Ateneo de Manila University. Before college, I was planning on working in the advertising world specializing on planning or media production. When I first started taking my major subjects, I got into filmmaking. Then life happened. After two years of actual living and, of course, dying, I have decide to pursue the one I truly love yet ignored and even neglected for years. This year, I am finally going to formally work on becoming a visual artist among other things. I am finally and steadily shaping my life after I have regained the luxury to dream.
Apart from visual arts, I love literature. I also like history and I use it extensively in my work, almost as much as I use literature. I am very fond of language. Part of me hoped I had studied it along with anthropology instead of communication. I still like film. My favorite master is Wong Kar Wai who I love for his use of color and framing, and those shots of seemingly random things that ooze visual poetry especially in his trilogy.
Cursed with an Ateneo education, philosophy and thinking too much has become part of my life more than ever, but I am very thankful that I had classes dedicated to these or I wouldn’t know how to go about what had happened in my life in the last few years.
Random thought: I’m going to study art this coming semester. My classmates would be 17 years old. I’m 22. I feel like a 30-year old 22-year old woman. I did not call myself a “woman” when I was 17 years old.
Welcome, new followers! I hope you appreciate what I do and what I say through the stuff I make.
Thanks, Val, for the list you made. I bet a lot of my new followers saw that list. Valerie Chua is a great girl. She’s talented but you know that already. She’s also very nice in real life, and she’s also cute. I am happy that she seems to be doing what she’s supposed to do; make gorgeous illustrations. Have I boasted that I have one of her original works? One of her first commissioned works I believe.
I regret that I cannot show anything soon because I’ve been busy like what I have said earlier. I regret that you’d find this wall of text instead, but I would like people to know that my tumblr is not dormant. Hello again.
